Taking the Camper Offroad

Last weekend we packed the camper and took off for Crescent Lake to start Route 6 of the Oregon Backcountry Discover Route (OBDR). It was such a beautiful weekend for a drive and we were excited to see how it would perform offroad.

We spent Friday night at Summit Lake and enjoyed a steak dinner while watching the sun set over the lake. The night sky was so dark and the stars were INCREDIBLE! It was the first night sleeping in the camper. Even though it was only around 30° outside and we didn’t have a heater, it was toasty!!

Saturday morning we headed towards Diamond Peak and saw the most incredible views! The roads were rough in some spots and the camper surpassed all our expectations going over the terrain. Sadly, just south of Oakridge, we ran into road closures due to an active wildfire.

After some creative re-routing, we realized we didn’t have nearly enough time to complete the journey. We had originally intended to make it to Sutherlin but decided to cut the trip short. It was disappointing to not complete the route. However, the roads that we did drive and the scenery we saw will stay with us for a long time.

  1. You might want to think about mounting your camper on a small gooseneck trailer for the UTV people who just want a place to sleep and trailer to haul their toys . Most 2 seat UTV’s are a little over 10 ft so an 18 ft gooseneck trailer would be perfect especially if it was aluminum then you can tow it with a midsize truck like a Ranger or Tacoma your camper has everything you need for a few days in the desert

    • Thank you very much for your feedback! That sounds like a great idea!

Are y’all making one for the 4 door wranglers as well? Possible with two beds? That would be perfect for my small family. Also I see you have a soft top on your JK are you able to take the top off when carrying the camper?

        • Yes, the model we are starting production with will fit on 4-door wranglers as well! The upper section is 72″ wide so if the mattresses were narrow enough, you could fit 2 beds. You would need to take the top off before mounting the camper because the rack would be in the way when it’s on but yes, you could carry the camper without the Jeep top.

  2. I’d love to see some video footage of jeep and camper off road. It looks top heavy and tippy, but I would like to see it in action in hopes that it performs better than it looks. Great concept, now prove the skeptics wrong!
